Spirited Sibling

Apparently, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree when it comes to my daughter's "spirited nature".  We may not look alike, but we both have the same spirited/wild-donkey-ready-to run-look in our eyes!  I've heard horror stories of my spirited childhood (locking babysitters in closets, stealing sitters glasses and breaking them, poor preschool report cards, trapping cousins in the crawl space under the house after telling them that there were monsters down there, snapping Uncle Poogie in the face with rubber bands while he was sleeping...) but I never believed them.  I still don't believe that Buggy could ever have a malicious/jealous bone in her little body, but I do feel for my parents now after realizing how exhausting it is to chase after a spirited two year old.  Perhaps that's why they waited a few more years before Ryan came along??

We know she gets her love of singing and good looks from her Daddy, but I'm pretty sure her hopping/jumping and donkey kicks come from her Mama!  I'm sure you've already heard about me from my glory days at Storybook Nursery School where I hopped 100 times in a row for "Jerry's Kids!"

So maybe we have a few "slight" concerns about Buggy adjusting to the arrival of her baby sister in 9 weeks, which is why we enrolled her in the "Big Siblings" class at the hospital.

Hailey and her friend Caroline working on gently holding their baby sisters.  Notice how careful Caroline is with her baby and how Bug's sibling has been thrown on the floor, face first.

Helping Mommy put a diaper on the baby.

Helping Daddy feed the baby a bottle.

Working on her swaddling skills.

We were thankful that she managed to sit still for about 10 out of the 60 minutes of class.  But the majority of the time she spent running in circles in the middle of the classroom and doing donkey kicks (while the other 15 children sat quietly with their Mommies, Daddies and babies).

Getting her "Big Sister Certificate" from the teacher.

Watching the itty, bitty babies in the nursery with Daddy.  It's hard to imagine that Buggy was ever that tiny!

Yes.  Our child is about as spirited as God can make them.  And judging from how hard and often her little sister has been kicking and punching me, I could be adding another wild donkey to the Kinard Crew!

  1. So cute! I love the picture of you and her side by side. She actually does favor you quite a bit. I guess in more ways than one. I totally understand the active child. I always wonder what those parents are dosing their children with to get them to sit still and I bet they are wondering what we are doing to our kids that makes them incapable of stillness and quiet.

  2. I've got two spirited boys too...they won't ever sit still! She's going to adjust just fine to having a baby sister - you'll be amazed :-)

  3. Erin's right! I was amazed at how well Josephine did! The nice thing about having a "spirited" big sister is that little sister will never be bored!
