Chaos. That pretty much sums up the state of our backyard (and lives!) for the past few weeks! If you've been to our house in the past month, you will have noticed one of three things: 1) The pungent smell of fuel radiating from our basement 2) The loud ventilation system going that makes our living room sound like a wind tunnel 3) The construction site in our backyard with every type of Tonka truck you can imagine. An underground heating oil tank has been leaking outside of our house for heaven knows how long, and started to fill our basement with oil! It's been a nightmare cleaning up this "oil spill" and they ultimately had to rip apart our deck and dig a huge hole (and I mean huge! This thing was at least 20 feet deep!) to pull out the tank.
This has made my life a little more complicated because always having construction workers and Environmental Quality people in our house everyday for the past month means that I can't lay around on the couch without a bra on while I eat my morning bowl/trough of Fruity Pebbles off of my large belly! And we've also had to cancel lots of exciting play dates with our friends, which means Mommy has had very little adult interaction over the past month and is starting to go crazy!
However, Buggy has been thoroughly enjoying all the excitement that's been going on in her backyard! Our schedule has consisited of the following:
1) Waking up and asking about the trucks. Then eating our morning "bite"-Nutrigrain bar, berries and milk in front of the window while watching the workers.

I'm thankful that she's been so entertained while we've been stuck inside the house for all these days. And I'm even more thankful that this is getting taken care of before her sister gets!
On the bright side, we'll be getting a brand new deck to play on this summer!
Aside from the oil disaster, we've had a pretty amazing week/weekend. We've decided to embrace Bug's spiritedness and sign her back up for Little Gym. Our first class was on Saturday morning and she had a blast! Mommy and Daddy's cheeks were sore from smiling so much while we watched her "ooohhh" and "ahhhhh" and run around all morning! We also managed to get out of the house for a few playdates during the week and a cookout with friends last night. It's a beautiful Sunday today, and we spent the morning at church, and then Bug and I ran outside in the spring sunshine, pointing out all of the pretty flowers blooming before naptime. Doug has caught the "nesting bug" with me so we're going to spend naptime putting together nursery furniture and washing itty bitty baby girl clothes! What a great start to another great week!
Wow! That stinks, but at least the little girl has been thoroughly entertained.
ReplyDeleteI bet those tractor drivers have never had such a precious spectator before!
