This is our third newborn, so I've seen my fair share of baby vomit. However, I was not prepared for projectile vomiting every few hours for 2 days straight. No. That didn't seem normal, and that's what prompted us to take poor little Avery to her pediatrician first thing Monday morning. And from there we were quickly rushed to the Pediatric ER for an ultrasound, and then wheeled up to a room where we would be for 3 days while Avery underwent surgery for Pyloric Stenosis. Avery and I spent the night in the hospital while she was hooked up to IV's for 24 hours. She was scheduled for surgery, a laparoscopic pyloromyotomy, the next day, which was also my 32nd birthday. All I wanted for my birthday this year, was to get my sweet baby healthy again. Sending our newborn off to surgery was gut wrenching and both Mommy and Daddy were sobbing wrecks! Of all of the things for her Daddy to pass down to her, he had to give her this! Basically pyloric stenosis is a narrowing of the lower part of Avery's stomach that prevented food from emptying out of her stomach. Her doctor opened up that part of her tummy to allow food to pass through again and now she's eating normally again. Best birthday gift. Ever.
Doug and I are so happy to have all of this behind us now and we're so humbled by all of the love and support we received from our friends and family during this stressful time. Thank you.
