The Perfect Storm

Unless you've been living under a rock, you've probably heard about our close brush with death this week!  Ok, maybe I'm exagerrating a little bit, but it was pretty darn scary!  Doug had just flown out of town and the girls and I were getting ready for an afternoon playdate at the pool, when out of nowhere, a terrible storm blew over and caused the ginormous tree in our backyard to fall into pieces on our house!  The girls and I spent an hour hiding in the bathtub!  Then we spent the next 2 days without power.  No power with two young children for two days in the dead of summer sounds like it would be a nightmare right?!  By some act of God, it turned out to be a great two days full of fun memories with me and my girls.  The weather was gorgeous, so we kept the windows and doors open and both girls were on their best behavior.  We spent the whole time playing, without any distractions and it turned out to be lots of fun.

Bug wanted to be prepared, just in case anymore "broken trees" wanted to fall down on her house again!

Lulu was ready for the after-storm party!

Bug helped me load up the cooler with "weegles" (ice cubes) the next morning.  Fortunately, we had just gone to the store and had plenty of milk!

I wouldn't let her go outside near the "broken tree" so she spent most of her time staring out the window at it.

Having lunch, while wathcing the workers cut down the broken tree with their big trucks.  It provided the perfect entertainment for her while our power was out!

It took them 9 hours to take it apart!

Saying goodbye to the poor broken tree.

I was thankful to have such an exciting distraction for her during those two days.  She didn't even miss her tv shows!

Lulu was worried that we would run out of food, so she started eating everything in sight!  Toilet paper...(I can't keep her away from this stuff!  It's light crack to her!)

Goldfish...

Milkshakes...

Chocolate chips...

Fortunately, she didn't starve to death!

And I was thankful that we still had hot water!

The girls were practically angels and played so nicely together!

And when the "witching hour" approaced, we fired up the DVD player because it was fully charged!!

The power finally came back on 30 minutes before Doug flew into town (so he was able to work from home) and right before the weather started to get super hot (it was nearly 100 degrees the next day!)  It really was "the perfect storm!"

Not So Lazy Days of Summer

You're kidding.  It's almost July?  Really?  I'm beginning to think that those visions of me and the girls lounging around the pool, sleeping in and spending all day in our jammies are only that, visions!  Between summer camps, parties and playdates (I know, such a rough life us Kinard girls have!!), we have been busier than ever!  This week was insanely hot, so we used that as an excuse to stay home for three days straight and relax in the air conditioning.  It was marvelous!  We were especially excited when my good friend Cat come over to visit.  Hailey is still talking about her and asking when she's coming back to play!

Here are a few pictures of our three best summer days yet!  I spent the whole time on the floor playing with my girls, and although they did get dressed (they have way too many cute clothes for them to spend that many days in pjs!)  I didn't get out sweatpants or wash my hair!  Did I mention that it was marvelous?!!

Proudly modeling some pretty darn cute hand-me-downs from a friend!

Buggy covered in tattoos and bubbles.  Such happy girls!

Storytime with Miss Cat.

Showing off her Hello Kitty Jammies and tattoos.

Doing tricks after naptime!

More tricks.

One of Bug's favorite things to do is wait by the mail slot in the mornings for the mail.  She will yell MAIL'S HERE!  Then she will spend a good 20 minutes opening the junk mail and proudly show me what the mailman brought her.

More junkmail.

Note to self:  seersucker and tattoos don't go well together.

Daddy's shoes are some big shoes to fill.

Post lollipop blue tongue and big open mouth smile indicates one happy 3 year old.

We're cruising right through this summer and before we know it the leaves will be changing!

Father's Day Weekend 2012

Not only was this the best Father's Day weekend we've had so far, but it was also the best weekend we've had in a very long time.  We spent time with family and with some of our very best friends in the area.

Friday the girls and I made a trip to Gigi and Babu's where both of the girls embraced the outdoors with open arms (and all of it's creepy crawly critters too!)  Hailey had great fun catching frogs and lightening bugs with Babu and Lainey had a great time watching them!

Saturday we headed to All Fired Up to celebrate Hailey's good friend Sophie's 3rd birthday party.  We had a blast with Bug's preschool friends and Hailey can't wait to see the turtle she painted once it's all fired up.  After the party, we hit up the pool because the weather was just too perfect to pass up.  Once the girls were good tired, we headed home for a nap and then spent the rest of the afternoon and evening at our good friends Bill and Julie's for a summer cookout.  Hailey loved playing with the big kids and they all stayed up until 11:30pm catching lightening bugs and running around the house like little donkeys!

Sunday, we celebrated Daddy.  The girls made him sweet cards, a picture frame and a mug with their handprints on it.  Then we spent the rest of the morning outside doing some water play until Gigi got here.  Once our overnight babysitter had arrived, Doug and I loaded up the cooler with some frosty beverages and snacks and headed to Virginia Beach for the Dave Matthew's Band Concert with our fellow DMB superfans Rob and Lindsey.  It was an amazing concert and even the 2 hour drive was tons of fun because we had such great company!  Doug and I didn't go to bed until 3am and are severely paying the price for it today!!  But it was well worth it!

We're feeling very fortunate for such good friends and family.

Lulu in  her Lilly from Grandma.  Gotta love a Grandma with good taste!

Bug, smiling before her last day of St. Stephen's summer camp.

My gorgeous girl.

Princess Hailey.

Princess "Wainey" doesn't enjoy playing dressup with her big sister very much.  I'm sure the fact that this tutu was probably shoved on her head with excessive force from her older sibling might have had something to do with it! had a little to do with it!

Bug, playing Squinkies and Strawberry Shortcake.

Lulu and her Dora doll.  It's no surprise to us that "Dora" was her first word.  This little girl is crazy for her!

Reading her favorite book.

Checking out Dora's face on one of her many pairs of Dora jammies.

Sleepy eyed Dora fan.

Babu and his mini-me.

Bug playing doctor with Babu.  His doctor was adamant on the fact that he kept the bucket on his head during his exam.

Inspecting one of her lightening bugs before she dunked him in the water bucket for a "swim".

They were resilient little things!

Lainey loves to play with Gigi's rocks!

Frog hunting with Babu.

She knows all of their hiding places.  They never stood a chance!

Poor frog.

How on earth did I, of all people, give birth to a tomgirl??!!

Both girls headed straight to the bathtub when we got home!!

Excited to celebrate Sophie's 3rd birthday!

Hailey and Sophie.

Painting their masterpieces.

Daddy and his icecream cone twins.

Me and Buggy, looking cool in our shades.

Me and my girls.

My water babies.

Lulu loves the baby pool!

She would float around in there all day long!

Very proud of herself for putting her face in the water.

Drying off in style.

Lulu knows the importance of staying well hydrated!

Nothing says summertime more than a cookout with friends!
